La Casa Latina will be working with artist Betsy Casanas on their anniversary celebration project. This is an image of Casanas' work, "Serás Porque Te Quiero Ver Volar, Que Sigue Siendo Tuyo Mi Vuelo" (translation: Homeland, Perhaps It Is Because I Wish To See You Fly, That My Flight Continues To Be Yours), from the Albright-Knox Museum, Buffalo, New York, 2019.
La Casa Latina will commemorate its 20-year anniversary through a residency with two artists: one visual (Betsy Casanas), and one literary (Raquel Salas Rivera). The two artists will work with a select representative group of Penn Latinx Alums and current students to develop written, recorded, visual, multi-disciplinary and inter-disciplinary “responses” to personal and collective journeys at Penn and beyond. The artists will also use materials at the Penn Archives as inspiration, reference and context in working creatively with the participating alums and current students in the “telling” of their stories, experiences, opportunities and challenges. The project will culminate in an exhibition in the ARCH Building, which will open during Latinx Heritage Month at Penn and the 20th Anniversary of La Casa Latina.
