Image of Sickle Cells.

Sickle is a multimedia project that wants to give a spotlight to sickle cell anemia, an inherited blood disorder that affects a resounding number of Black Americans, and show the often arduous process of receiving care as a Black person in the medical field. Specifically, Sickle will focus on the ramifications of implicit bias, highlighting how loneliness and abandonment of care aids in the pain of chronic illness and how that particular isolation is never considered or discussed in medical fields. Sickle will incorporate interviews from other folks with sickle cell anemia and their experiences with the disorder, poetry, video, and other ephemera.
