    Kroiz Exhibit Illuminates the Abstract in Modern Japanese Architecture

    In the new exhibit at the Kroiz Gallery in the Architectural Archives, “Critical Abstractions: Modern Architecture in Japan, 1868-2018,” on display through Sept. 24, School of Design architecture lecturer and exhibit curator Ariel Genadt challenges prevailing ideas on the reasons behind the international appeal of modern architecture made in Japan.

    Sara Bachman Named Dean of Penn School of Social Policy & Practice

    Sara “Sally” Bachman has been named dean of the School of Social Policy & Practice at the University of Pennsylvania, effective Jan. 1. Bachman comes to Penn from Boston University. She is the Paul Farmer Professor in the School of Social Work, a research professor in the School of Public Health, and the inaugural director of the Center for Innovation in Social Work and Health, whose mission is to elevate social work leadership and cross-sector collaboration to promote health, health equity and social justice.

    Renee Andrea Mills, of the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, is Slated to Receive a Penn Medicine CAREs Grant for Art Outreach

    Renee Andrea Mills, of the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, thinks every community needs exposure to art, and outlets for creativity. For 25 years, she has worked toward that goal, creating programs and spaces for children and teens to make art. For her work and dedication, Mills is slated to receive a Penn Medicine CAREs grant, which will fund future art supplies.

Silverman Professor of Law, professor of philosophy, and vice provost for faculty, began her three-year term as the first female African-American president of the Eastern Division of the American Philosophical Association (APA). Penn Today spoke with Allen about the intersection of philosophy and the law, how the field has changed, and her thoughts on being head of this organization.
