Exhibit Catalog to Peer Inside Fantastical Mind of Penn ArtistThe catalog, one of 23 projects funded by The Sachs Program for Arts Innovation in April, is conceived by Paul Swenbeck, who began working with the Institute of Contemporary Art in 1995. “Out, Out, Phosphene Candle,” on which the catalog will be based, is a mesmerizing exhibit by Swenbeck and his wife, painter Joy Feasley, currently on view at the John Michael Kohler Arts Center in Sheboygan, Wisconsin.

Hack4Impact is Developing Web-based Applications to Help NonprofitsA creative and dedicated cadre of 30 Penn students spends 5 to 15 unpaid hours weekly developing web-based applications that help nonprofits access, share and analyze complicated, changing data sets. Choosing from dozens of nonprofit applications, they select five coding projects each semester, prioritizing opportunities to create broadly useful, replicable programs for nonprofits whose missions they are passionate about advancing.

Erin Connelly, Postdoctoral Fellow at the Penn Libraries Schoenberg Institute for Manuscript Studies, is Analyzing Stains in Medieval and Early Modern BooksConnelly, a postdoctoral fellow at the Penn Libraries Schoenberg Institute for Manuscript Studies, is part of a national team of researchers who for the past year analyzed stains they found on parchment, paper, and bindings in medieval and early modern books. They gathered scientific data on 40 medieval manuscripts from five institutions, using the innovative approach of high-tech scanning.
