  Floating Art Installation Brings Schuylkill River History to Life

  Jacob Rivkin, the 2018 Mellon Artist-in-Residence in the Penn Program in Environmental Humanities (PPEH), has spent the last year combing the digital archives and collections of a variety of institutions, identifying photographs, etchings, and drawings related to the Schuylkill. In “Floating Archives,” Rivkin, also a lecturer in the Fine Arts Department in Penn’s School of Design, will project his animations onto a screen suspended between two canoes and paddled up the river.

  Tulia Falleti on the Chilean coup of 1973 and The Other 9/11 exhibition

  Tulia Falleti, Penn political science professor and director of Penn’s Latin American and Latino Studies program, sheds light on the events of the “other” 9/11, the coup of 1973 that displaced the democratically elected president of Chile and instated a military dictator. “The Other 9/11--Memories: Geography of a Decade, Chile 1973-1983," organized by Penn’s Latin American and Latino Studies program and supported by The Sachs Program for Arts Innovation is on exhibit at the Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts through October 18, 2018.

  PennDesign Opens Satellite Exhibition Space

  POST.SCRIPT. is an offsite multiuse exhibition space that provides an open environment for fine arts students, faculty, and alumni to build upon and expand their studio and exhibition practices.The facility will function as a studio/work space, as well as a satellite location for public programs that engage Penn students from multiple disciplines, as well as the wider Philadelphia arts and culture community.

  Kroiz Exhibit Illuminates the Abstract in Modern Japanese Architecture

  In the new exhibit at the Kroiz Gallery in the Architectural Archives, “Critical Abstractions: Modern Architecture in Japan, 1868-2018,” on display through Sept. 24, School of Design architecture lecturer and exhibit curator Ariel Genadt challenges prevailing ideas on the reasons behind the international appeal of modern architecture made in Japan.

  Sara Bachman Named Dean of Penn School of Social Policy & Practice

  Sara “Sally” Bachman has been named dean of the School of Social Policy & Practice at the University of Pennsylvania, effective Jan. 1. Bachman comes to Penn from Boston University. She is the Paul Farmer Professor in the School of Social Work, a research professor in the School of Public Health, and the inaugural director of the Center for Innovation in Social Work and Health, whose mission is to elevate social work leadership and cross-sector collaboration to promote health, health equity and social justice.
