Will Owen, 'Scrimmage', wood collapsable bleachers.
Will Owen will create a set of collapsible, telescopic bleachers with a set of bellows built underneath. When the bleachers are opened and closed, they will create a sonorous accordion-type sound. Using various types of bellow-based reed instruments as inspiration (Bagpipes, Shruti, Sho, Accordions, among many), Will is interested in creating an interactive set of “prepared” bleachers that allows the audience to perform their seating. Bleachers hold multiple identities within the North American psyche. On the topside, they are an exposed, well-lit vantage for being witness to any sort of prescribed tournament of value whether sport or another assembly. Underneath this seating gives way to a more clandestine and experimental area where light is channeled through jostling feet and book bags.
