Cosmic Writers is an emerging nonprofit that provides free, accessible creative writing education to K–12 students. Especially as children are first learning how to convey ideas on the page, creative writing is an extremely impactful tool for developing their communication skills and passion for words. However, in contrast to the recent push for STEM learning, there are very few programs that provide children with creative writing education — and of the programs that do exist, most are expensive and/or located only in major cities. Cosmic Writers was founded to provide an equitable opportunity for children to learn writing skills. Their programming prioritizes accessibility to all geographic locations, and their pedagogy is designed to be flexible to the needs of students from all socioeconomic backgrounds.

After running through Kelly Writers House for the past two years. Cosmic Writers is on the path to becoming an independent 501c3, which they hope will enable them to expand the reach of their existing programming and develop several additional programs that fulfill their mission. The grant from the Sachs Program will enable them to pilot new afterschool programs while they finalize the process of becoming a 501c3.
