Rain Gideon will produce Beginning & End of Life Caregiving: A Photovoice Project, which seeks to explore the nuances of caregiving at the beginning and end of life, in collaboration with caregivers at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and the Penn Memory Center. Caregivers at the Penn Memory Center are caring for older adults with dementia who are nearing the end of life. Parents in the NICU are preparing to care for a premature infant who has just arrived. This project seeks to understand the ways race, class, identity, and religion intersect with the act of caregiving. Photography is an accessible tool for disclosure, expression, self-efficacy, and processing. The participants will use their smartphone to capture photographs and will be compensated for their time; removing barriers to entry to ensure that this project is inclusive. This exploration will culminate in a virtual exhibition, featuring a selection of photographs.
