Project Support Grant
Laia Mogas-Soldevila, Faculty Fellow at Lauder College House, and Campbell Grey, Lauder House Faculty Director, will lead an initiative to create a large-scale crest mosaic made of small tiles representing each member of the Lauder College House community, to be designed and technically defined now, and completed over time. It will be installed on a double height wall in the building’s living room, accessible by all undergraduate students at Penn, visible from the glazed courtyard and next to the dining hall in a high traffic area. From outside, the community at large will notice this floor-to-ceiling piece through large windows facing Chestnut St. Lauder College House is partnering with ceramist and artist Natalie Kuenzi at Penn Clay (Weitzman School of Design, Fine Arts) and with her fellow Penn teachers and artists in the West Philadelphia community to define a straight-forward, scalable, and durable methodology to decorate the mosaic tiles. In the making of this project, the Lauder House team would like to inspire their residents to be artists, and to connect them with other artists within Lauder, the arts at Penn, and the artist community in Philadelphia.
