Hard Copy, is an ongoing five chapter series of drawings that will culminate as a book. The series departs from a five-page, handwritten document recording the 107 items purchased over the course of one day in 1977 from Giovanni’s Room, as well as flyers advertising for local and national LGBT events found archived alongside the pages. The pages and flyers were scanned from the Giovanni’s Room records held at the John J. Wilcox Jr. Archives at the William Way LGBT Community Center In Philadelphia. Giovanni’s Room is the first LGBT bookstore in the United States, opening in Philadelphia in 1973. The project focuses on the earliest sales receipts on record to explore a time where information was shared and circulated by word of mouth and through physical materials like periodicals, newspapers, flyers, magazines, and zines.
