Human Condition is a photographic work that investigates and subverts the algorithms through which computer vision detects and categorizes humans. Sol Kim’s project aims to intervene in these systems—probing their limitations and exposing their blind spots. Kim will input images of people she has photographed into the object detection model and experiment with how changes to the images affect the algorithm. Through introduced variations, she creates images in which the AI perceives personness more or less accurately, highlighting both moments of failure, when AI cannot fully recognize humans, and moments of resistance, when humans can challenge the algorithm.
