Humming from Babel, 2024, Multi-channel video installation, still from 10 min loop.

Gayoung Lee will be creating a non-narrative video installation titled ‘Humming From Babel’, which explores the complex pathways along which emotions travel when speaking in a language that is not one’s own, particularly focusing on the often-invisible ESL speakers in Philadelphia. ‘Humming From Babel’ will be a multi-channel work using footage from a participatory performance series Lee previously orchestrated, titled ‘Teach Me What Love Is’, which explored the linguistic diversity of the word ‘love’ across Arabic, Spanish, Korean, and other languages.
