Portrait of Lilana Ponce

Liliana Ponce.

Michael Martin Shea will translate the first two books by the Argentine poet Liliana Ponce: Trama Continua(Continuous Weft), published in 1976 and winner of that year’s Primer Premio (First Prize) in Poetry from the Fondo Nacional de las Artes, and Composición: Poesía 1976-1979(Composition: Poetry 1976-1979), published in 1984. These two volumes marked Ponce’s debut as a major innovator in Argentine poetics, and she has since become one of the foremost poets in Argentina. This project will allow English readers to better grapple with the complexities of Argentine and Latin American aesthetics by providing access to the stunning early work of an important writer.
