Palimpsest is a short speculative film emerging from Farrah Rahaman’s original research practice, The Claudia Jones Project, an experimental ethnographic collective assembling 18 artists, archivists, and scholars. Recounting the moment on the brink of deportation, in which the visionary organizer and journalist Jones sets fire to her entire personal archive, Palimpsest exists on the ethereal bridge between madness and intuition. The film takes place in Claudia Jones’ Harlem apartment, using glimmers from other moments in her life to puncture this sequence.
