The Weitzman School of Design and the School of Arts and Sciences will pilot a Performance Intensive: an eight-day program that offers artists working with performance in the context of visual art, sound, dance and/or theater the opportunity to develop their practice in a structured, rigorous and collaborative environment. The Performance Intensive will be collaboratively led by Sharon Hayes, Associate Professor in the Department of Fine Arts, and Brooke O’Harra, Senior Lecturer in the Theatre Arts Program at Penn. Activities will include lectures and performances by visiting artists and scholars; collective workshops and classes; and individual and collaborative production and critique. Through the Performance Intensive, the Weitzman School of Design and the School of Arts and Sciences, aim to catalyze conversations across the University about the role of performance scholarship in the curriculum and to gather support and partnership for a sustainable performance initiative, either curricular or non-curricular.
