Preparatory portrait sketches for Phantom of a Fallen Queen provided by grantee Irma Flóra Kiss.
Irma Flóra Kiss will create a multi-media installation responding to the tragic fate of Anne Boleyn. The installation will combine sculpture, photography, and audio for a critique of reproductive rights throughout history.
Anne Boleyn’s execution remains one of the most salient examples of an individual woman’s victimization by the state. By re-staging her voice in the current day, this project critiques the pervasive view of womanhood grounded in fertility and marriage.
