Penn’s Department of Music will launch the Philadelphia Student Composers Project (PSCP), along with partners from Temple University, Curtis Institute of Music, and University of the Arts. PSCP will bring together student composers from these four institutions to offer two collaborative concerts per year, each of which will feature a world premiere student commission from each school. In creating PSCP, the four schools hope to offer students the chance to connect and share their works with those outside of their programs, helping them to feel more grounded in their community. In addition to offering two concerts a year, PSCP will also send out a monthly email to all composers from the four schools detailing the composition events each school is offering for that month. A monthly reminder of university composition events will not only raise the likelihood of student attendance, but will also provide on-going communication between the four composition departments and lay the groundwork for continued inter-school relationships.
