Southwest Asian, North African (SWANA) Arts at Penn is a series of workshops and film-centered events highlighting the cultural heritage and artistic practices of SWANA communities. The Greenfield Intercultural Center will collaborate with two local organizations on this programming: Al-Bustan Seeds of Culture, which offers artistic and educational programming rooted in Arab arts and language; and cinéSPEAK, an arthouse cinema and journal that cultivates experiences and opportunities for filmmakers and moviegoers. In collaboration with Al-Bustan Seeds of Culture, SWANA Arts at Penn will offer a series of artist-led workshops in practices such as traditional embroidery, Arabic calligraphy, illumination, mosaics, music, and other regional art forms. The project will also include a film screening about the SWANA region and its diasporas in collaboration with cinéSPEAK. Together, these workshops and screenings honor traditions from the SWANA region and enrich Penn’s cultural landscape.
