Stilted Ground emerges from Latoya Briscoe’s dissertation research on alternative forms of social and political world-building. The project zooms in on how a queer-women-led stilt-walking collective in Kingston, Jamaica (re)imagines the city as a space of inclusion, social relation, and ancestral memory. Using multimodal performance ethnography (including co-performance, sound recording and spatial mapping,) Stilted Ground considers stilt-walking as a practice of embodied elevation, archiving, and urban design, reorganizing sensory and social relations within the city.
