Event at West Philadelphia Sanctuary
Storytelling through Art at the West Philadelphia Sanctuary will be a key component of the new community initiative, the West Philadelphia Sanctuary (WPS), which provides shelter for those that need it during the daytime, a community of neighbors with whom to gather and socialize, and an opportunity to access needed resources. A core part of WPS is creative expression of personal stories and life experiences through media such as art and music workshops led by West Philly creators, storytelling, and mural painting. WPS, which opened in November 2024, is currently being held at several locations in West Philadelphia, including The Rotunda at 40th & Walnut and Franklin’s Table at 34th & Walnut. Guests who have used the space have expressed interest in creative initiatives, and several are artists themselves. Storytelling through Art provides an opportunity for community members to engage in creative, collaborative workshops regardless of their backgrounds or interests, acknowledging that art can be healing for those experiencing social isolation and loneliness, an issue that affects people from every walk of life.
