Claire Sabel will collaborate with artist and illustrator Alix Pentecost-Farren to produce a set of illustrations and a digital animation, based on Claire’s doctoral research into the history of the earth and environmental sciences. This project will specifically focus on a set of letters exchanged between Elizabeth Thomas (c.1716-79), a self-taught fossil collector, and Emmanuel Mendes da Costa (1717-1791), a professional naturalist, illustrating the experiential nature of Thomas’s investigation into the natural world.
