What World? is a curated group exhibition at The Arts League in West Philadelphia that lays bare how artists (and society) are experiencing this very surreal global political moment. Grounded in a practice of Black speculative futuring‚ What World? explores both the potential promises and threats we face in the days to come. Featuring the work of eight QTBIPOC artists whose work either illuminates the destructive futures we are moving toward, or endeavors to imagine more liberatory alternative futures. Two-dimensional media including collage, photography, and painting will be displayed on the walls of a divided gallery where the left side envisions the worst of what the world can become, and the right imagines the more just futures. In whole, this project will reflect how marginalized people are making sense of the current moment and bring members of the Philadelphia community together to meditate on what world we want to create.
