    Announcing Black Music City: A Project to Showcase and Support Black Artists

    Philadelphia’s Black music community has a rich history, its influential legacy has reached far beyond Philadelphia. But it’s historically been more difficult for Black artists to access funding for their work and reach wider audiences. To help foster a new generation of local Black artists, WXPN has partnered with WRTI and REC Philly for Black Music City. The project will provide grants to Black artists in the greater Philadelphia area, including Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware.

    Two Penn English Faculty Receive Creative Capital Award for Writing Projects

    Two faculty in Penn’s School of Arts & Sciences, Simone White, an assistant professor of English, and Marc Anthony Richardson, a lecturer in creative writing, are among 42 artists chosen for a 2021 Creative Capital Award. Each will receive as much as $50,000 in funding for their creative writing projects.

    Grammy Nomination for Album Featuring Music by James Primosch

    The album Catharge, with music composed by James Primosch, Dr. Robert Weiss Professor of Music, has received a Grammy nomination for Best Choral Performance. Carthage was recorded by The Crossing, with Donald Nally conducting.
