Alicia Kachmar, a Penn Nursing professor, and Jessica Martucci, the curator of The Barbara Bates Center for the Study of the History of Nursing, will collaborate to host Wendy Elliott-Vandivier for a series of classroom lectures, workshops, and an exhibit of her work, organized through related content in Kachmar’s Community/Public Health Nursing course. Elliot-Vandivier is a Philadelphia-based artist whose works explore her experiences as a disabled woman, focusing on attitudes, stereotypes, and microaggressions around disability. A graduate of the Tyler School of Art at Temple University, she is experienced with facilitating cartooning workshops with people of all ages and recently held an artist-in-resident position at Thomas Jefferson University. This project seeks to build connections between a disability perspective rooted in first-hand experience with contemporary and future leaders in healthcare here at Penn.
