  Claire Nguyen and Erin O’Malley Provide Important Insight on Penn’s Efforts to Support Asian American Studies

  Claire Nguyen & Erin O’Malley discuss the type of support that is needed on campus and its impact on students. On March 30, the College announced that there will be a cluster hire of faculty to teach in Penn’s Asian American Studies Program. In this article they outline how the Asian American Studies Undergraduate Advisory Board is grateful for this news, but disappointed that the petition demanding Penn's retention of Dr. David Eng and support ASAM, were left out. They are excited about this cluster hire as current co-chairs of the UAB, they remain wary of this ostensible victory and Penn’s responses to anti-Asian violence.

  Monument Lab App Expands Space and Time at Art Museum Steps

  The augmented-reality app, called OverTime, launched in March with a prototype tour at the Art Museum steps, “offers educational, self-guided tours of a public space by unearthing the multiple layers of history, meaning, and interpretation of that site through a personal smart device.”

  Toorjo Ghose Receives Fulbright U.S. Scholar Award to India

  The U.S. Department of State and the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board are pleased to announce that Toorjo Ghose of the University of Pennsylvania School of Social Policy & Practice has received a Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program award to India. Dr. Ghose will be hosted by Presidency University in Kolkata as part of a project to document and teach about the strategies deployed by sex workers to negotiate the COVID-19 pandemic.

  Penn Museum Announces the Repatriation of the Morton Cranial Collection

  “The Penn Museum and the University of Pennsylvania apologize for the unethical possession of human remains in the Morton Collection.” Christopher Woods, the Penn Museum Williams Director, said. “It is time for these individuals to be returned to their ancestral communities, wherever possible, as a step toward atonement and repair for the racist and colonial practices that were integral to the formation of these collections. We will also reassess our practices of collecting, stewarding, displaying, and researching human remains.”
